Down Light Safety Alert #1 PDF Print E-mail

Recessed down lights are a very popular form of lighting.  However, as responsible contractors we advise that down lights must be adequately guarded and sealed, with insualtion values safely maintained over each down light or they may be detrimental to your property.

Down lights must be kept clear of combustibles, so adequate protection is essential to prevent the risk of unfixed elements and common ceiling build up moving against any EXPOSED high temperature globes and igniting due to interference by pests, turbulence or people.  No one can afford to risk a ceiling fire which generally advances rapidly and with devastating or even life threatening results.

Compliance with Australian Standard AS/NZS 3000:2000 is mandatory for the safety of persons and property.  To comply, an approved enclosure should be installed around each down light in your ceilings.

An approved enclosure does what insurance can't do.  It makes homes safer, healthier, reduces the entry of ceiling dust, allergens, insects and draughts.  It seals the down light (recognised by energy raters).  It will pay for itself in energy savings alone.  It reduces noise transfer through the down light fitting and with an isolated fully ventilated trasnformer it also assists optimal down light function.
